Social Worker of the Year Awarded to First Lady Gloria Patterson of Ypsilanti SDA Church|LRC NEWS

As National Social Work Month (March) 2018 came to an end, the Social Work Communications Committee would like to congratulate Gloria Patterson, LMSW, who won the Beverly Jean Howard Award for Excellence in Social Work!

Gloria Patterson has worked on 9C unit, Michigan Medicine Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, and PES (Psychiatric Emergency Service) since 1992. Gloria has been nominated for the award for many of those years. Laura Nitzberg, social work manager, shared that, “Gloria is an outstanding social worker who has worked so hard advocating for patients and families, providing outstanding clinical care and providing training and instruction to trainees from all disciplines. She also has tremendous expertise negotiating the legal system and locating resources.”

Many of Gloria’s colleagues from the Department of Psychiatry also congratulated her, including Dr. Maria Muzik who shared, “This is so deserved. You have been a rock in the social work service world within our psychiatry department for decades, and I personally have learned from you so much as resident on 9C and C/L, and I am so honored to continue to work with you when our paths cross in PES. You are an amazing personification of knowledge, lived experience, compassion, dedication for the cause and kindness.”
