CAREER OPPORTUNITY: CONFERENCE ASSOCIATE TREASURER |HR DEPARTMENT

Position Summary: The Lake Region Conference is seeking an Associate Treasurer who would be responsible for assisting the Treasurer/CFO in the direction and management of treasury activities. Oversees treasury activities and guarantees the financial transactions, policies, procedures that fulfill the organization’s goals and requirements, as well as regulatory body requirements. Must be a member of the Lake Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and committed fully to the mission, message, and unity of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Requires a high level of communication and technical skills.

  •  Authority, Accountability: 
    • Authority as delegated by the supervisor.
    • Work is performed with limited supervision.
  • Essential Job Functions:
    • Performs and manages Conference accounting functions (G/L, F/S, plant fund, fixed asset, etc.); completes monthly accounting tasks accurately and timely.
    •  Under direction of CFO, manages all financial records pertaining to the Conference.
    • Maintains General Ledger and prepares Journal Vouchers.
    • Manages capital expenditures and investments.
    • Performs month and year-end closings.
    • Coordinates accounts payable and accounts receivable; signs checks.
    • Analyzes and reconciles all Conference accounts.
    • Prepares and issues timely and complete financial statements and appropriately stores information for efficient retrieval.
    • Assists with payroll processing; serves as backup to payroll manager.
    • Assists Treasurer in budget preparation and cash flow management
    • Calculates variances from the budget and reports significant issues to Treasurer.
    • Assists in providing customer service support and training for conference departments, employees, volunteers, constituents and local church and school treasurers.
    • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
    • Manages insurance and loss control services.
    • Prepares and makes daily deposits.
    • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Prepares reports on compliance with established internal control procedures and standards and on problems that require strengthening of internal controls.
    • Assists in preparation of year-end report.
    • Coordinates audit preparation and activities.
    • Recommends and assists Treasurer in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
    • Assists with the development and implementation of the accountable plan for the Conference.
    • Coordinates preparation and compiling of documentation for annual GCAS audit.
    • Follows North American Division policies and guidelines in managing and maintaining accounting system and financial services and records of the Conference.
    • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
    • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
    • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Regularly reviews and evaluates administrative and accounting controls of churches and schools for compliance with NADWP SA 05 27
    • Monitors internal control procedures and the safeguarding of assets.
    • Performs special projects as designated by Treasurer.
    • Answer all emails and phone calls in a timely professional manner
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Education/Experience Requirement:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance or other relevant field which included coursework in accounting. MBA preferred.
    • Three to five years successful work experience in accounting required
  • Required Knowledge and Skill:
    • Must have working knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
    • Must have working knowledge of fund accounting and church structure and policies
    • Must exhibit extensive initiative; often working with minimal supervision. Ability to perform duties with speed and accuracy without constant supervision and meet required deadlines.
    • Must have ability to handle confidential matters, set priorities, and work will under pressure with attention to detail.
    • Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment and focus on continuous improvement.
    • Must have strong accounting software skills and ability to create and analyze financial reports (LUCIS or AASI preferred).
    • Demonstrated experience and high level of proficiency in using electronic spreadsheets (particularly Excel) and database applications.
    • Strict adherence to professional ethics.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong analytical, research skills and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task while working independently or within a group environment.
    • Must be able to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and departments.
    • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, accounting software and databases

    • Contact with many people, both internally and externally. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other workers, volunteers and constituents on a daily basis.
    • Must be able to effectively handle confidential information/situations at all times and maintain high degree of loyalty and support for department, the Lake Region Conference, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
    • Must be able to sit, walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Ascend, descend stairs and operate office productivity machinery.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Tasks are usually performed under normal office conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lit and ventilated.
    • Some travel required for training, attending meetings, and other related duties.
