Bereavement Announcement – Pastor Robert L. Douglas, Sr.

Lake Region Conference Mourns the Passing of Pastor Robert Lafayette Douglas

The Lake Region Conference mourns the passing of Pastor Robert Lafayette Douglas, Sr., who passed away on January 11, 2026. He was a devoted servant of God – a fourth-generation Seventh-day Adventist pastor, the nephew of the renowned Elder Charles Bradford, and the first cousin of Dr. Calvin Rock. His life reflected a rich spiritual legacy, faithful leadership, and an unwavering commitment to ministry that spanned more than three decades.

Pastor Douglas faithfully served together in ministry across the Lake Region Conference. He pastored in Muskegon, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, Benton Harbor, Niles, Jackson, Albion, Elkhart, Idlewild, Fort Wayne, Marion, Muncie, Gary, South Bend, and Chicago. While serving in Chicago, he also became the Community Service Director for the Lake Region Conference which was a role that reflected his heart for people and hands-on service.

Beyond the pulpit, Pastor Douglas was known for his practical skills and love of working with his hands. One of his favorite roles was serving as Camp Superintendent, where he combined leadership with craftsmanship. He was also skilled in construction work, often working alongside his brother Leonard who was building not only structures, but building lasting memories.

Pastor Douglas’ life embodied the words of Scripture:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – II Timothy 4:7

His legacy within the Lake Region Conference is one of dedication, compassion, and steadfast leadership. For 34 years he shepherded God’s people, strengthened churches, served his community, and upheld the sacred calling of ministry with humility and grace.

Services for Elder Robert Douglas were held at the Oakwood University Seventh-day Adventist Church in Huntsville, Alabama on February 8, 2026. Dr. Abraham Henry, Lake Region Conference Interim President, along with several constituents of the Lake Region Conference, were present to offer their support and gift of presence to the Douglas family during this time of remembrance.

We extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the Douglas family. May we all be inspired by Elder Douglas’ example of faithful service and unwavering trust in God.
